Scripture
Romans 10:14-15
How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Observation
Paul longed for the Israelites to all come to know Jesus.  He lived out this passage in a way that it not only impacted the Jews but also beyond to the Gentiles.  With all he had he believed that anyone who called upon the name of Jesus could be saved.  For Paul he wanted the Jews to know and experience the liberating power of Jesus through His Spirit.  However, that wouldn’t be possible if Christ wasn’t demonstrated in Paul’s action not just words.

Application
I can’t expect people to believe in someone let alone trust them if they have never heard of them.  I could think of many people that are relatives and friends that I pray for in hopes of them coming to know Jesus.  And that is good but I hope soon or later I get to share with them the difference Jesus had made in my life.  However, my words wont mean much if I don’t know Jesus, I know him if I don’t spend time with him.  If Jesus is what they need how much more of him do  I need of him so that he could spill over into the lives of others.

Prayer
May you fill me in such a way that I may know you and others would could experience you through me.  May my words, deeds, and disposition scream louder than the words I speak of you.  Send me Lord to those that need to hear about you.  Give me the boldness I need to tell of your power and love.  In your name I pray.

Scripture
Romans 9:31-32
...but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal.  Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.

Observation
Israel missed the mark by focusing on trying to be right with God by what they did rather than who they were.  There was nothing wrong with them pursuing righteousness and wanting to do good and be right with God .  But in their pursuit of trying they left out the faith part.  They left out the part of God’s mercy, grace, and love saving them not their own effort.  And so they missed out on how the law and prophets pointed to Jesus.

 Application
Its possible to live right before man yet still be in the wrong before with God.  There is nothing wrong with pursuing living a good and right life before men however, that will not make us right with God.  Faith in Christ is what does.  Trust in what he has done through the cross and resurrection.  Just because we are involved in a lot of things at Church doesn’t mean we are good with God.  The things we do doesn’t rack up brownie points with God.  Christ didn’t die on the cross so that I could be busy doing right.  Doing what is right is a natural outflow of what Christ has done for me and the world on the cross.

Prayer
Father thank you that I don’t have to try to earn good standing with you.  There is no way for me.  I thank you that through your son I have life and freedom to do and be the man you have created me to be.  May what I do today be an offering of thanks for all that you have done for me.  In Christ Name.

Scripture
Romans 8:26
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Observation
This is telling me that we don’t really know how to pray.  But the good news is that the Holy Spirit is constantly working to correct our prayers before God.

Application
This lets me know that there is no wrong way to pray as long as my heart is in the right place. It’s good to know that God is not impressed or disappointed with my prayers.  Instead His Spirit helps me connect with Himself since I can’t do it.  All God wants me to do is create the space in my life to actually pray.  What a loving and wonderful God!

Prayer
Lord, these very words are being corrected as I write them. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You that You care so much about me…that You are so involved in my life.  That You desire to connect with me so much that You are willing to correct my inability to speak to You.  Lord, I’m all yours! Do with me as You will.  In Jesus name, amen!
